Local Police
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
