Former Doctor Accused of Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a ex- doctor now faces charges for committing sexual assaults against 38 victims who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

One senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Investigation

The charges come after what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Prosecutors outline the 45 sexual offences include:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
