The January recruitment period proves to be a time of significant rumour and potential big-money moves. Numerous prominent players find themselves connected to moves out of their current clubs. We examine a selection of the key names who could be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player in contention, indications are an important move is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a contract featuring a substantial buy-out clause active for a short period in early January. Latest reports point to the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his services. Former suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to alternative targets, leaving clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late move.

M. Guéhi

The England centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace despite a previous transfer to Anfield collapsing. As his deal set to run out in the close season, January is the London club's last chance to obtain a fee for their captain. A host of elite clubs, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a January departure remains unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the player.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh forward has had first-team minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Although being the club's leading goalscorer last season, he has started only a handful of league games. It is understood the London outfit is willing to consider a sale for the correct valuation, thought to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

Spurs value the Welsh international at around forty million pounds.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal playmaker might be poised for a comeback to the Premier League following a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now just 28, while his agreement expiring in the summer, he is a possible opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the player. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he is willing to accept a pay cut for a switch to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced Germany goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barcelona following new manager Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a winter departure looks highly likely. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that option currently seems off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

The proven English striker has kept scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his fading chances of making the England World Cup. But, securing a transfer poses major hurdles. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his alleged huge salary make any move complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

C. Gallagher

This energetic midfielder attracted widespread attention in the summer but stayed at Atlético. Due to FIFA regulations about playing for multiple teams in a campaign, a move back to his parent club before next summer appears to be the sole available outcome.

K. Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkish attacker has been in fine form for the Italian giants this term. With his existing deal nearing its end, many Premier League sides – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the situation. Juventus are eager to tie down the youngster to a lengthy agreement but are in a race to retain one of the continent's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. The teenager is widely tipped to make a big-money transfer in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
