Iconic Singer Barry Manilow Scheduled for a Procedure for Lung Cancer.

The singer has disclosed that he was diagnosed with lung cancer and is set to have a surgical procedure.

Early-Stage Diagnosis

The 82-year-old singer, famous for his series of upbeat chart-toppers from "I Write the Songs" cemented his status as one of pop music’s cherished showmen, will have an operation to take out a section of lung tissue in an effort to fight off the illness, which is in its early stages.

“As many of you know, I recently endured six weeks of bronchitis followed by a return of another five weeks.

“Even though I was recovered from the illness and performing again at the Westgate Las Vegas, my excellent physician requested an MRI just to be certain that all was clear.

“The MRI discovered a tumor on my lung that needs to be removed. It’s incredible chance (and a great doctor) that it was found so early.”

Postponed Performances

He has delayed a number of forthcoming concerts, but indicated he would be back on stage by Valentine’s Day for his longstanding residency in Las Vegas.

He added: “The physicians do not believe it has traveled and I’m undergoing further tests to verify their assessment. So, that’s it. Chemo is not needed. No radiation. Just home remedies and classic TV.

“I’m counting the days until I rejoin my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.”

Professional and Personal Journey

Manilow is now in the 16th year of a concert series in Nevada. The singer has spent decades in the public eye and came out as gay in 2017, after tying the knot with his partner of many years, Garry Kief in secret in 2014.

The duo were in a discreet romance for in excess of 35 years. In 2023, Manilow discussed how important his partner had been to him during his rise to peak fame in the 1970s.

“As my career exploded, it was just crazy. And, you know, coming home to an lonesome hotel suite, you can land in a lot of trouble if you, you know, you’re by yourself evening after evening,” he said.

“But I found my partner right around when it was exploding. And I didn’t have to go back to those lonesome rooms. I had a partner to cry with or to enjoy success with.

“I desire that aspiring artists don’t have to go back to those suites by themselves, because you get yourself in trouble. I never did. But it was very solitary until I met Garry. And then it was a shared adventure.”
