Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
