Historical organ composition
Bach is believed to have created the two compositions early in his career

Previously unknown organ works by the renowned composer Bach have been revealed and performed in the central European country for the initial occasion in three hundred twenty years.

Germany's Minister of Culture the government representative called the unearthing of the pair of works a "great moment for the world of music".

They first caught the attention of Peter Wollny in the early nineties when he was cataloguing the composer's papers at the Brussels archive.

The organ pieces - the D minor Chaconne and G minor composition - were dating unknown and anonymous. Mr Wollny spent the following three decades working to confirm the identity of the pieces.

Memorable Concert

They were played at the historic Leipzig church in Leipzig, where Bach is laid to rest and where he served as a music director for over two decades.

The pair of works were executed by Dutch musician the musical performer, who said he was proud to be able to play them for the first time in three hundred twenty years.

He said the compositions were "of a very high quality" and would be "a great asset for organists today, as they are also appropriate for reduced-scale organs".

Cultural Relevance

They are thought to have been written during Bach's formative years, when he was serving as an organ instructor in the town of Arnstadt in central Germany.

The researcher, who is now the leader of the Bach research center in the city, said they displayed several qualities distinctive to the musical genius.

"Stylistically, the compositions also feature elements that can be observed in Bach's compositions from that time, but not in those of any other composer," he said.

They are believed to have been recorded in 1705 by one of Bach's pupils, the historical figure.

At a revealing of the compositions, Mr Wollny said he was "almost completely confident that the composer had composed the two compositions" and they have now been included into the official catalogue of his compositions.
