The nation's leader Ferdinand Marcos Jr has announced a state of emergency - the threshold of which involves numerous deaths, widespread structural damage, and disruption to means of livelihoods and daily routines for local inhabitants.

The weather system, referred to locally as Tino, tore through the populous island of Cebu, flooding complete communities and carrying vehicles down roads.

Many thousands of people had to be relocated, while some are sheltering in designated safe zones.
