Russian President Vladimir Putin Vows Uninterrupted Oil Supplies to the Indian Nation in Snub of US Pressure

During a clear statement to Western nations, President Vladimir Putin stated to PM Narendra Modi that Russia is prepared to provide “uninterrupted” supplies of energy resources to India. This declaration came when Putin and Modi met in New Delhi and declared their bilateral ties were “resistant to external pressure.”

A Message Aimed at the United States

This affirmation, issued after the annual summit, seemed to be a pointed rebuke at the United States and its allies, that have repeatedly attempted to compel New Delhi into scaling back its historical ties with Moscow. The context follows previous US actions, notably the imposition of import duties against Indian goods because of its buying of Russian oil.

“Russia is a reliable source of fuel and all required for the advancement of India’s economy,” Putin remarked. “Russia is prepared to continue securing the uninterrupted delivery of fuel for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”

Prime Minister Modi, though he did not naming energy explicitly, echoed the sentiment by stating that “energy security has been a strong and vital foundation of the India-Russia alliance.”

Questioning US Interference

In the lead-up to the talks, in a TV appearance, Putin had criticized US interference regarding India's dealings with Russia. The president questioned, “If the US can claim the privilege to buy our atomic materials, how can you deny India have the equivalent access?”

Putin's arrival marked his first journey to India since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, and both sides undertook a visible effort to demonstrate that the friendship between the men persisted strongly.

An Unusual Reception

In a notable step, Modi welcomed directly Putin right off the plane. The two shared a warm hug as close allies before holding a one-on-one meal on Thursday evening.

The Indian prime minister in his statement called India's partnership with Russia as “a guiding star” and said it was “based on reciprocal esteem and profound confidence.”

Expanding Strategic Ties

Friday's talks produced multiple significant pacts in the fields of military and economic cooperation. A cornerstone agreement was the finalization of an economic cooperation programme extending until 2030, which aims to boost commerce to one hundred billion dollars per year by the target year.

Additionally agreed to recalibrate their strategic cooperation. While Russia remains India's biggest supplier of arms, the volume has reduced over the past decade as India has sought widen its supply base.

The official release emphasized plans for the collaborative manufacturing of sophisticated defence platforms, although explicit details of deals for the Su-57 fighter jet were omitted.

Ultimately, Moscow and Delhi affirmed that in the “current complex, tense, and unpredictable international environment, Russian-Indian ties remain resilient to external pressure.”
